At the Florence County Municipal Animal Shelter, our mission is to provide compassionate care and safe shelter for homeless and abandoned animals in our community. We are dedicated to promoting responsible pet ownership, reducing the overpopulation of pets through spay/neuter programs, and facilitating the adoption of animals into loving, forever homes. Through education, community outreach, and collaboration with rescue organizations, we strive to enhance the lives of both animals and people, creating a humane and caring environment for all.
YOU ARE YOUR PET’S BEST HOPE FOR A NEW HOME
Below, you will find two incredible resources for rehoming your pet. They are well respected and we urge you to use BOTH resources to increase the chance of finding your pet a new home, so he or she does not have to enter a shelter.
Believe it or not, you are your pet’s best option for finding a new home. Some people think shelters or rescue groups would be best for placing your pet because we have experience, facilities, screening guidelines, etc. However, an individual, particularly one who knows the animal, can focus all their efforts on that pet, provide the most information to prospective adopters, and best determine the appropriateness of a new home.
Also, shelters are stressful for animals. The shelter setting, no matter how nice, can bring on stress-related problems. Anxiety, aggression, and even illness are common, and these natural reactions may make adoption difficult or impossible. If you decide that you do need to rehome your pet, we want to help you become your pet’s best advocate for finding a home.
We are thrilled to announce the launch of the Florence County Pet Pantry, a wonderful initiative aimed at supporting pet owners in our community. Our goal is to ensure that every pet has access to food and supplies, regardless of financial circumstances.

Florence County, in partnership with Pawmetto Lifeline, is excited to now provide a low-cost spay-neuter program for Florence County residents. The County seeks to reduce the unwanted pet population that leads to animal control issues for the community.
Pawmetto Lifeline is a non-profit organization in the midlands that offers spay and neuter, vaccination, and adoption services. Florence County’s participation will be part of a regional effort by the organization to raise awareness and provide solutions to animal overpopulation.
Pawmetto Lifeline will provide pickup on a designated day once a month and transport dogs and cats for spay and neuter services.
Resident cost will be $60 per cat and $80 per dog. All animals will be required to have a rabies vaccination at an additional cost of $6, or the owner is to provide proof of vaccination before pickup— $10 microchips. Your animal will be returned the next morning. Additional vaccinations and services can be provided at the owner’s expense.
