Recreation Specialists II - Recreation

General Statement of Job

Under regular supervision, performs maintenance of assigned recreational facilities, grounds and equipment, ensuring the provision of a clean and safe recreational/work environment for citizens and staff. Performs related work as required. Reports to the Facilities/Project Superintendent.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Performs maintenance of assigned recreational facilities, grounds and equipment.

Assists with the preparation of athletic fields.

Assists with the daily custodial care and general maintenance of facilities.

Coordinates division maintenance activities with other departments/divisions as necessary.

Assists with the maintenance requirements for rentals and special events.

Conducts quality control inspections of facilities; ensures compliance with applicable policies, procedures and standards of quality and safety.

Evaluates the need for equipment, supplies and materials.

Responds to a variety of documents, including but not limited to walk-through lists, staff schedules, work orders, maintenance checklists, monthly reports, safety forms, various other records, memos and correspondence.

Refers to policy and procedure manuals.

Operates the following equipment: vehicle, tractors, zero turn mower, weed eater, chain saw, paint machine, pressure washer, sod cutter, line machine, weather radar, two-way radio, etc.

Uses mechanic’s tools, carpentry tools, various other hand tools.

Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the immediate supervisor, co-workers, and other department supervisors and personnel, subordinates, consultants, contractors, vendors, and the general public.

Additional Job Functions

Performs grounds and facility maintenance work as required.

Assists during special events as needed.

Performs related duties as required.

Minimum Training and Experience

Requires a high school diploma supplemented by one to two years of supervisory experience in the maintenance field, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must possess a valid state driver’s license. Must also be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in extreme weather conditions.
