EMS Educator Award

Florence County Emergency Medical Services Training Officer Katharine R. “Kate” Smith was presented with the 2014 Jack Niles award for excellence in EMS education on Saturday February 28, 2015 at the annual South Carolina Emergency Medical Service Symposium in Myrtle Beach.

The South Carolina EMS Network, which is comprised of representatives from EMS organizations throughout South Carolina, presents the award annual to the individual who has contributed most significantly to the improvement of emergency medical services through education and training of the community and EMS providers.


Eighteenth Annual Carolina Competition

The Eighteenth Annual Carolina Competition took place over the course of 2 days recently in Lexington S.C. This event challenged 12 teams of regional paramedics from North and South Carolina to test their skills and knowledge against professionals in the field of EMS.

A team representing Florence County EMS comprised of Lieutenant Andrew Herring (pictured left), and Sargent Michael C Hatfield (pictured right), competed in the 2 day event, and finished 2nd overall for the weekend.

Florence County EMS congratulates Lieutenant Herring, and Sargent Hatfield for a job well done, and thanks each for their dedication to serving the public in all they do.


Sober or Slammer 2014

Florence County EMS, standing with the South Carolina Highway Patrol, Howe Springs Fire Dept., Florence County Sheriff’s Office, Florence City Police Dept., and representatives from the L.E.N.

This is an awareness campaign that FCEMS participated in to alert citizen to the dangers and consequences of Drinking and Driving.


Kevin Johnson

Promotion to Sergeant

Florence County EMS is proud to announce the promotion of Sergeant Kevin Johnson.

Kevin Johnson, a paramedic with Florence County EMS, has recently been promoted to the position of Sergeant. He has most recently served as a Corporal at Florence County EMS. Sergeant Johnson always views problems as opportunities, and has shown a high level of devotion to Florence County EMS.

Promotion to Sergeant

Florence County EMS is proud to announce the promotion of Sergeant Billy Hatchell.

Billy Hatchell, a paramedic with Florence County EMS, has recently been promoted to the position of Sergeant. He has most recently served as a Corporal at Florence County EMS. Sergeant Hatchell brings a wealth of experience, knowledge, and initiative each shift he reports for duty.


Andrew Herring

Promotion to Lieutennant

Florence County EMS is proud to announce the promotion of Lt. Andrew Herring.

Andrew Herring, a paramedic with Florence County EMS, has recently been promoted to the position of Lieutenant. He has served as a Sergeant at Florence County EMS, and brings energy, enthusiasm, commitment, and a desire to help people in need, when they need it most.

Resolution of Appreciation and Recognition

The Florence County Council acknowledges that Robert Davis “David” Exum has provided over 35 years of devoted service to the citizens of Florence County while working with the Florence County Emergency Medical Services Department.

The Florence County Council has presented Mr. Exum with the Resolution of Appreciation and Recognition in honor of his meritorious service.
