Are You Prepared?

Hurricane Andrew

Recent hurricanes, flooding, tornadoes, and winter storms have emphasized the need for everyone - families, businesses, agencies, and institutions - to be prepared.  Florence County Emergency Management would like for you take this time to get prepared. When disaster is imminent and is happening, it is not the time to think "What should I do?". Being prepared means you are ready to protect your family and property when a disaster occurs. It means you have previously thought out what to do, where to go, what to bring and how to get there.

Obviously, each disaster is different but a general plan and disaster preparedness kit can reduce the fear, inconvenience and losses that surround a disaster. If a disaster strikes Florence County local government and emergency service agencies will help you. But you need to be prepared as well. These agencies may be overwhelmed after a major disaster and may not be able to reach you right away. What you do now can make a big difference then. A general rule of thumb is plan and prepare now to be self-sufficient for at least 72 hours following a major disaster.

We hope you will use the information on this website to make your family and business disaster plans to ensure your family's safety and security.
