Animal Control

Florence County Environmental Services is charged with the enforcement of the county Animal Control Ordinance. The ordinance is a complaint initiated ordinance. If someone has a problem with a stray or owned animal running at large, contact the office during regular business hours. (843) 665-3053.


Florence County Animal Control Ordinance

All pets over (4) four months of age must have a current rabies vaccination given by a licensed veterinarian. Violation - $50.00

It shall be unlawful for an owner to allow a pet to run at large off of their property. Upon a written complaint, the animal can be impounded and/or the owner issued a notice of violation. Violations - Running at large - 1st offense - warning, 2nd offense - $25.00, 3rd offense - $50.00

State law requires that all animal bites are reported. Environmental Services investigates all bites in the county. Call 843/665-3053 to report bites during normal business hours or Sheriff's Department dispatch at 843/669-3911 after hours, weekends and holidays.


Adoptions

Animals are available for adoption at the facility in Effingham. Adoption costs are $40.00 plus rabies vaccination charge. Full refund of the $40.00 is returned once proof that the dog or cat has been spayed or neutered.
