| Three Fort Bragg Soldiers were killed Monday, May 29, 2004, when their UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter went down in a wooded area off Interstate 95 near Dillon, S.C. The FCEMS SPECOPS Team worked in search operations as well as assisting in rehabilitation for the many searchers involved in the effort to find the crew and copter. Sgt. Stiver Powell was embedded in an Army search team, and Lt. Linda Reynolds was placed with a Florence County Sheriffs Department team. The very heavy undergrowth in the area, proceeding down towards the river across a descending swampy area with hundreds of years of growth in places, hampered mere walking, and made sighting anything very difficult. |

| Members of the Special Operations Team attended a workshop at a local vets office to learn how to work on animals. This might seem like a strange skill for people who normally work on human beings. But K-9 (canine) units work with the Law Enforcement SWAT Team. These are highly trained and very valuable animals. If they were hurt during an assault run on a SWAT callout, the SPECOPS Team would be able to provide very high level care for them, until a veterinary source could be called in. |
