Here you can see where the roof
and doors were removed. The
severe impact forced much of the
front end of the vehicle and dash
onto the occupants. Seatbelts and
airbags prevented fatalities, but
with this much impact, there are
still going to be severe injuries. |

Here is the other head-on vehicle.
The third vehicle ended up about
300 feet further down the road,
after getting a sideways impact.
Without seatbelts and airbags,
there would probably have been
4 fatalities.

July 2001 This is the middle of 3
cars involved in an accident. One
of the other vehicles rolled over,
and the other one turned over onto
its side. Significant injuries to the
driver of this vehicle, less to others.

the left you can see one of the
other two vehicles in the accident
that is overturned and rolled up
on one side. Williamson Road.

but the severity still caused
significant injuries.

The same accident from a slightly
different angle. Here you can see
how severe the impact was. The
door caved in on the driver when
it was hit by the other vehicle.

June 2001 This car was hit on
the driver side door by a truck in
a T-Bone type incident on the
interstate. We don't know how
the vehicles crossed each others
right-of-way.

On the same accident, here you
see how various agencies work
together. FCEMS and Florence
Rescue secure the patient for
extrication, while West Florence
Fire Department stands ready for
fire, and to work with Rescue
in the extrication process. |

The driver's side doors have been
cut off, and the patient is removed
from the vehicle. Car was also
carrying a bottle of ammonia
which burst, causing a hazard
that is not normally seen, fumes
strong enough to make workers
cough. The truck in the accident
is on the right side of the picture.
|

June 2001 This single vehicle
accident occurred when the
driver fell asleep. The car ran
off the side of the road and hit
a guardrail. Though no one in
the vehicle was restrained, they
only suffered minor injuries.

April 2001 This truck was parked
partially on the side of the road
unloading a family moving into a
home. Struck from the rear by the
truck on the extreme right..

This is the truck that hit it. The
impact threw it over into the
median and caused a lot of
damage. Driver was belted and
airbag worked. Minor injuries.

February 27, 2001 This car and
truck collide in what is called a
"T-bone" accident, due to the
shape one vehicle makes with
the other. FCEMS Medic 2 and 1,

There were three occupants in
the truck, one in the car. The
damage was severe. If there had
been a car passenger, he would
have been crushed on impact.
The car driver was badly injured. |

Here is a view of the windshield
of the truck. Proper seatbelt
use should never result in these
cracks, which cause a pattern
that is called a starburst. The
potential for a head injury is high.

February 18, 2001 A severe
accident leaves one dead on the
scene, one critically injured, and
two others hurt badly. Here, a
paramedic and firefighter work
to extricate a child and parent.
|

The fatality was another child,
which is always hard on rescuers.
Seatbelts might have helped keep
the child inside the vehicle. This
Jeep was on fire following the
wreck. FCEMS Medic 1, 2, 7, Florence
