Florence County EMS New Headquarters

The new building faces a main thoroughfare on both ends. Access to the highway is by the road that
splits the block to the left. The public entrance is to the right front, with parking in the area shown in the
middle of the picture. The bay doors for ambulance and QRV parking are about halfway down the
building on the left side of the picture. The driveway area for emergency vehicles is separate from
the public park area, so there is no conflict when a vehicle is pulling out for a call.

The bay doors to the inside parking area. The
interior has space for 4 ambulances to be
stationed inside at one time, with power outlets
for each vehicle to remain fully charged. Here
Medic 2 and the Supervisor vehicle are ready
to go when needed.
The rear entrance to the building provides access
to the classroom area. This allows some distance
between administrative and operating areas, so
classes are not disturbed. The emergency
generator for the building is just to the right
of the middle of the picture.
Here is the apparatus bay. This shows Medic 2
and Medic 7. There is room for two additional
units to be stationed here in the future as the
call load increases. The bay is heated, with
drop-down electrical cords for the shorelines.
The doors are remotely controlled from the
units, so the crews do not have to get out in
nasty weather just to open a door.
Administration, secondary use vehicles, and
employee parking is in this area, behind the
building.
This area is behind a security gate, so there is no
danger of equipment being tampered with, or
employees having to worry about their personal
property.
Here the crews of Medic 2 and Medic 7 relax
while waiting for a tone to go off. This is the
crew's day room area, which adjoins to the
kitchen and the offices for the Station Supervisor
and crews.
Another view of the crew day room, standing
under the television. Everybody smile!

In November 1999 Florence County Emergency Medical Services moved into a new 7,500 square foot facility constructed to meet the growing needs of EMS in the area. The new building houses administrative offices, central medical supply, barracks for two crews, and classroom spaces. There is enough interior space to house 4 ambulances inside the vehicle bay area. Employee recreation space immediately adjoins to the parking bay area. The entire building has been wired to be a part of the county computer network, and each room has outlets for computers to be used. All office spaces have computers, as well as the classroom for use in computer based training. The station property is the width of the city block it sits on, and the entry road adjoins to a 3 lane major throughfare on the east and west sides of the block. There is an emergency generator on-site, a 6,000 gallon fuel tank, and fuel pumps for the vehicles. The site is security controlled, with employee access through an electronically operated gate system. Construction pictures are here.

Move was completed on November 12, 1999.
