January 26,2005 - Six members of the Florence County EMS Special Operations Team were sworn in as Florence County Sheriff's Office Reserve Deputies today. The Medics, who have been certified as Reserve Officers through the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy, were sworn in by Sheriff Kenny Boone, although they have actually been training with the SWAT team for over a year. The duties of these armed tactical Medics include keeping the SWAT operators as healthy as possible, providing emergency ALS (Advanced Life Support) interventions, and assisting the SWAT team with tactical operations. Florence County EMS provides at least one tactical Medic for the SWAT team 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This helps provides quicker medical intervention on the team should another SWAT operator or suspects need it, while being able to operate in the hot zone of an operation. All Armed Medics have been thoroughly trained in both emergency medicine and tactical operations. More information about our Special Operations Team can be found in the SpecOPS section of the website. |
