A train accident occurred in Lake City at approximately 0540pm.
A freight train heading north struck a tractor trailer at a crossing, which
spilled its contents across the front of the train and onto a car on the
roadway. The tractor trailer was carrying rolls of asphalt, one of which rolled
into a store. The train continued north as it slowed after impact, at one point
the front engine left the tracks and turned partially over, scooping up dirt and
gravel, before the incline on the other side of the ditch forced it somewhat
back up, possibly keeping the other cars from derailing the entire train. As it
was, only the front two engines left the tracks. The train was carrying no
hazardous materials.
