On September 27, 2000 FCEMS teams assisted Florence County School District 3 and Safe Schools America (SSA) with putting on a disaster drill for the Lake City High School. The scenario was that a gas explosion had occured in the cafeteria during lunch break, and that 12 students were injured during the blast. The explosion was on a wall that adjoined to the chemistry lab, so there was also a possibility of a chemical hazard. The drill included participants from Lake City Fire Department, Lake City Police Department, South Lynches Fire Department, and school nurses from DHEC. Schools represented included Lake City High School, J.C. Lynch Elementary School, Main Street Elementary School, J. Paul Truluck Elementary School, Olanta Elementary School, Ronald E. McNair Jr. High School, Lake City Primary School, and Scranton Elementary School. The drill was held once with actual students as patients and as evacuees from classrooms. It was held an additional 3 times for representatives from the other schools to walk through the same scenario to get training experience, but without evacuating the school, and only simulated patients.
Pictures to come!
