The Soul of EMS

The soul of EMS is the people who respond to the emergencies and give of themselves to help others. What do qualities do these people possess that makes them able to do this job? How do you define these qualities?

 Knowledge, Strength, Courage, Compassion, Caring, selflessness, observant. Obsessive, free-spirited, independent,   confident, a leader and even an adrenaline junky.

Knowledge - The sum of what is known.

The only real security that a man can have in this world is a reserve of knowledge, experience and ability.

Strength - the quality or state of being strong.

You gain strength, experience, and confidence by every experience where you really stop and look fear in the face. You must do the thing you cannot.

Courage - the quality of mind or spirit that enables a person to face difficulty, danger, and pain without fear.

Definition of courage: Grace under pressure.                    
Ernest Hemingway

Compassion - a feeling of deep sympathy and sorrow for another who is stricken by misfortune, accompanied by a strong desire to alleviate suffering.

Caring- to feel concern for others

Observant-quick to notice or perceive; alert.

Obsessive-excessive behavior.

Free-spirited-a person with a highly individual or unique attitude, lifestyle, or imagination; nonconformist.

Confident-having strong belief or full assurance. leader-the ability to lead others.

Adrenaline Junky-addicted to the rush of adrenaline in the "fight or flight" response.

 

In addition to helping others these people are also mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters , and children with lives outside of EMS.
