| Being professional is more than just performing our skills
on patients. Think about it and write a list of what you think
professional is to you. Compare it to what your partner thinks
professional is. Compare your list to the list of the Shift Supervisor.
Remember... we can all learn from each other. Gary Horn |

Tactical Medic is a term you hear a lot these days. They are portrayed on
TV as being the medics that risk everything for their patient or their
fellow tactical team members. On June 18th, 19th, and 20th, 16 members of the Florence County EMS " Special Operations Team " took the first step along this path. These 16 people took part in an extensive 3 day training program in tactical medicine. The course was held right here in Florence and was taught by nationally recognized and certified instructors. It consisted of 2 days of extensive classroom training and one full day of physically demanding tactical exercises. Some of the subject matter covered in this course was: 1) Tactical team medic roles and responsibilities. 2) Rapid interventions. 3) Rapid patient evacuation. 4) Team building concepts. I can tell you that all team members were excited about this class, and have expressed a desire to move forward to even more advanced training. I know that I speak for the entire team when I say the following special thank you. 1) To our Director, Gary Horn, for having the vision and the willingness to make this possible. 2) To Captain Chip Culbertson, for doing extensive "leg work" in investigating the program and bringing it to Florence. 3) I know the team wants me to express a "very special" thank you to the entire staff of FCEMS, without whom they would not have been able to attend this great program.
