City of Florence |
| |
The
City of Florence is located in the northeastern portion of
Florence County. Two interstates serve the City. Florence boasts
five intersections with Interstate 95, the major corridor on the
East Coast. I-95 runs between Miami, Florida and Houlton, Maine,
at the Canadian border. It passes through Jacksonville,
Savannah, Richmond, DC, Baltimore, Wilmington, Philadelphia,
Newark, New York, New Haven, Providence, Boston, and Portland
providing important linkages with sixteen other interstates.
Florence is a terminus for Interstate 20 at I-95 along with
Kent, Texas at I-10. From its intersection with I-95 in
Florence, it passes through Columbia, Atlanta, Birmingham,
Tuscaloosa, Meridian, Jackson, Shreveport, Dallas, and Fort
Worth. U.S. Highways 52, 301, and 76 provide highway
transportation.
Originally founded at an important linkage point for railways,
Florence retains its strong tie with daily passenger and freight
rail transportation.
Florence residents are justifiably proud of our Spanish moss
draped neighborhoods, three museums, a symphony orchestra, a
live theater, and several festivals throughout the year. There
is live entertainment playing somewhere in our city six nights a
week. Our restaurants run the gamut of culinary delights from
down-home, succulent barbecue to European cuisine. |
