Vocational Education
District 1, through the Career Center, offers 17 trade and
industry classes, including:
air conditioning & refrigeration
drafting
graphic communications
cosmetology
fashion merchandising
welding
There are also comprehensive programs for business education and
computer programming.
Extracurricular
District 1 offers high school students over 20 club activities,
including:
National Honor Society
Key Club
Foreign Language Club
Drama
Tri-Hi-Y
Civitan
Active student government and civic clubs serve entire community
on a regular basis, providing assistance to the elderly and
promoting recycling programs.
Interscholastic athletic programs are available at the varsity
and junior varsity level. Each school offers football,
basketball, softball, baseball, soccer, track, volleyball,
tennis, golf, and cross-country racing.
Academic competition is sponsored among high schools, and the
winning team travels to Huntsville, Alabama for higher level
matches. Academic competition is also fostered through the
Chamber of Commerce s Salute to Education, a banquet honoring
the top five seniors with the highest grade point average from
each high school. Pepsi-Cola Bottling in Florence sponsors Start
Students, a program held at the end of each marking period,
which recognizes students for their academic achievement.
