County High Schools
Schools
Florence County has 7 high schools and one career center to
serve grades 9-12. These schools range in size from 1,200 to
1,500 students, while the career center serves over 1,400
students. These schools are fully accredited by the South
Carolina State Department of Education and the Southern
Association of Colleges and Schools.
Academically Competitive
Approximately 65 percent of the district s graduates pursue a
higher education degree. The majority of students are accepted
by the college of their choice; district graduates consistently
earn scholarship awards based on their academic performance.
The district offers a comprehensive instructional program with
over 200 course selections. The courses are offered at three
performance levels; general, academic, and enriched. Assignment
to course level is based on student performance, teacher
recommendation and parental approval.
Florence County offers a core program designed for college-prep;
the curriculum includes English, math, science, social studies,
and a foreign language. Advanced Placement courses are available
in English, calculus, American history, economics, chemistry and
biology. These programs are supplemented by the Gifted &
talented English program for grades 9 and 10.
For students who plan to pursue a rigorous academic track,
Florence District 1 can offer students four years of foreign
language in French, German, and Spanish. Latin is offered
through a two-year program. Classes are also available in
precalculus, advanced math, physics, and advanced biology and
chemistry.
